Bridging Indigenous and Western knowledge-systems in knowledge co-production with Amazonian Indigenous communities: a systematic realist review

Researchers have sought to understand how Indigenous and Western knowledge systems can be bridged for development research (a) more inclusive of local actors (b) relevant the problems it aims address. Research in Amazonian contexts remains dominated by a ‘Western’ science struggling accommodate bottom-up research. This paper examines is co-production with communities, what outcomes such bridging incurs. The uses systematic realist review analysing 22 studies. It finds that knowledge, was based on partnership between scholarly communities. Emphasising mutual respect, power-sharing, empowerment this contributes generation legitimate beneficial all involved process. However, also observes gap theory practice. Power-relations scientists communities need further addressed More work needed enhance legitimacy order empower address challenges according their own needs.
